UPM's
Changshu mill site in China is located in the Province of Jiangsu, about 100 km from the city of Shanghai. The mill site hosts a 800,000 tpy fine paper mill, R&D Center and labelstock factory. The mill site is logistically well located by the Yangtze River. The nearly 200 hectare mill site has a harbour, a power plant and an effluent treatment plant.
UPM Changshu paper mill is the biggest producer of uncoated fine papers in China. Two thirds of the mill's production is sold through UPM's sales network to the Chinese market. The rest is exported to the Asia Pacific region.
UPM Raflatac self-adhesive labelstock factory serves fast-growing demand for labels to meet packaging needs in China and the Asia Pacific region by supplying paper and film label materials for standard and special applications.
The UPM Asia R&D Center located in the Changshu mill site is responsible for local fiber raw material research as well as manufacturing and technical customer service support for UPM's production units in China and Asia Pacific Region.
UPM will begin RFID tag and inlay production in Guangzhou, capital of the Guangdong province in southern China, in the third quarter of 2008. The new manufacturing site will serve the fast-growing Asian market in all RFID end-use areas, including ticketing and the apparel industry.
UPM has an extensive sales network in China. The sales offices are located in Shanghai, Beijing, Guangzhou, Wuhan and Hong Kong. In addition, the Group has a representative office in Beijing.
