Supplier criteria

UPM chooses its suppliers on the basis of long term business relationships, reliability and awareness of environmental and social responsibility. The company requires that its suppliers operate according to the principles of sustainable development and continuous development.

In addition, suppliers must comply with the company's Code of Conduct and fulfil the following general requirements:

be familiar with UPM operating principles and operational guidelines, and commit themselves and their personnel to complying with them

adhere with national or local laws, regulations and the instructions of the authorities

have a legal right to sell the timber which it supplies

knows the origin of the wood it delivers to UPM and provides the information required

Forestry and Wood Sourcing departments regularly carry out supplier checks to monitor performance and compliance with UPM's requirements.
