    • The company's international forestry operations are directed by Forestry and Wood Sourcing Guidelines.

    These policies and tools are integrated parts of third party verified management systems covering almost all of UPM 's Forestry and Wood Sourcing operations. These systems are commonly certified to the quality and environmental management standards ISO 9002 and ISO 14001. In Finland, operations are also have a verified EMAS environmental statement.

    Verified continuous improvement

    External auditors verify the management systems and ensure their continuous improvement. In addition, UPM carries out its own internal audits and supplier checks. Through these methods UPM can assure its customers that it knows where the wood used comes from and that, for example, UPM does not accept wood from protected forest areas.
