Tracing Russian Wood

Many of the products we see around us at home, at the office or in our leisure time are made of wood. Russia has the largest forest resources in the world and it is likely that one of those products contains some Russian wood fibre. But how do we know, and does the wood come from a legal and sustainable source?

This site helps answer those questions by explaining how UPM operates when it buys Russian wood. There are also innovative features such as:

  • stakeholder video clips
  • supplier audit and road to the customer flash presentations
  • the TraceIT mapping system demo
  • the views of Russian people and a University Professor
The site is the result of cooperation with three of UPM's customers; Axel Springer, Otto and the Guardian Media Group. Valuable contributions were also received from Greenpeace Russia, The Russian Ministry of Natural Resources, Det Norske Veritas, ZAO FIRO-O, Novtecles and Professor Matti Kärkkäinen.
